Bowmore Distillery is not only one of the oldest in the region, but also one of the first to be licensed. However, this did not protect the distillery, which was founded in the late 18th century, from many new owners. New beginnings were sometimes confronted with closures, and one of the most adventurous phases was certainly that of the Second World War, in which flying boats played the leading role. As part of the widespread concentration processes, promoted by empires specialising in luxury brands and large beverage producers, this distillery passed to the Suntory Group in 1994. In addition to its traditional production of sake, the Suntory Group also made a very good name for itself in Japan with the whiskeys it produced there.
